What Causes High Fever In A Child?

My son is 2 1/2 years old. He had a high fever for 3 days, highest being 103.3. No other symptoms. I took him to the doctor and she said probably a virus. Since he s been sick his temp drops down to 96.3 at night and he is sweating. He feels cold. He has on long sleeve pajamas a sheet and comforter and the house is 72 degrees. This seems strange to me. Is this okay or do I need to have him looked at again?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, I would like to know few details. Is the fever associated with cough, cold? Is there loose motion or vomiting? Is there cry during passing urine? If there are no symptoms then it is fever without focus. We may need to investigate the child to find the focus of the fever if the child is sick looking and toxic. If the child is playful we can wait for 48-72 hours for the fever to subside and can use antipyretic and tepid sponging as needed.
