According to the studies, usually all women have elevated ketone levels during pregnancy. But excess ketones in a pregnant woman's urine may indicate that you and your baby are not getting enough calories in your diet. Some studies have shown that presence of excess ketones in pregnant woman's urine may affect the brain functions of a upcoming baby and baby may born with future learning disabilities and poor IQ. Again, in pregnant women with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, ketone levels may increase in their urine which can develop a life threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. So, if increased ketone levels is found in pregnant woman's urine, then she should consult her doctor immediately for medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
