My daughter is 30 years old trying to get pregnant for about a year now. She had her FSH levels tested and they came back as an alarming 90 and 98. She gets her period every month on time. The GYN told her she has a cist on her ovary that is about 8 in size. What could cause such high levels of FSH
Follicle-stimulating hormone is responsible for the development of ovarian follicles. High fsh levels can be seen in different conditions like: - In menopausal women, in women taking hormones - Polycystic ovarian syndrome, ovarian cysts - Adrenal masses, etc.
As your daughter is having an ovarian cyst of around 8 cm that could be one possible cause for high FSH levels. Some women with ovarian cysts can get regular periods also. Depending on the symptoms and the type of the ovarian cyst she may need laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy sometimes.
Tumor markers like CA 125, CEA, etc. can help in finding the nature of the ovarian cyst. Once the ovarian cyst gets treated she can try for ovulation induction with your doctor's advice then by tracking the ovulation pregnancy can be planned.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
