What Causes High-pitched Ringing Sound In One Ear?

I have a constant high pitch noise in my left ear. My GP says she sees fluid. My ENT said he didn t but put a tube in to relieve the pressure I am feeling. He said I had some hearing loss. As soon as the tube was put in I had significant more hearing loss. Is this common? Should I have the tube taken out and will I regain my hearing when I do? It has been a month. What should I do about the constant high pitch noise I hear? That has been going on for 5 months after a bad cold.

Hi
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting the query.

If you experienced more hearing loss then better to get it removed and take an another opinion from ENT specialist.

Exposure to loud noise for a brief period can damage the sensitive hair cells in the inner ear causing noise induced hearing loss in the higher frequencies.

The damage to the hair cells may be subtle or severe depending upon the duration of exposure and the amount of noise.

The ringing in the ears (tinnitus) is usually emitted by the hair cells in the cochlea and the hearing nerve. This gets worsened in various conditions, but more so, when there is damage to the nerves in the higher frequencies.

Most of the times, the tinnitus will resolve by itself without much intervention.

In case,If it doesn't get better even after a week then it would be advisable to for an audiological evaluation done.

Drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Try taking nutrition supplements like B-complex. The former and the latter, helps in rejuvenation of the damaged hair cells.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards
