What Causes High Pitched Ringing Sound In The Ears?

Hi, today a couple of hours ago, all of a sudden I got started hearing this high pitched noise that was echoing most noises that I heard that were above a certain high frquency, Now it wont go away,now, every tine there is a noise,there is a very high pitched whistle that echoes said noise, and its starting to become painfull
