Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
Many women report an increased sex drive during their menstrual period, which is a side effect of the hormone
progesterone that is normally produced in the premenstrual period. This is not abnormal and sex during your menstrual period is not dangerous or harmful.
However, orgasm normally causes uterine contractions, so it is likely you notice more bleeding afterwards because your
uterus expels more blood tissue during contractions.
To help to prevent this, taking any anti-inflammatory pain reliever (such as
ibuprofen or
paracetamol) about 30-45 minutes before sexual activity may reduce the cramping from orgasm and decrease the acute blood loss.
But I do want to reassure you that your symptoms are due to normal female physiology and do not indicate any gynecologic problem.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.
Regards,
Dr. Brown
