Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 76-yr-old step-father was told by his doctor today that his triglycerides were high and one of his kidneys wasn t functioning properly . He didn t give any details other than he may have to re-work some medication that my step-father is currently taking and he scheduled a follow-up appointment for next Monday. My step-father is still working fulltime as a contractor, and needless to say, I m very concerned. Given the limited information I ve just provided, what would recommend he do until his next doctor s appointment?
Hello, Triglycerides (TGL) are essential for various body functions. But excess of TGL is a risk for heart disease and pancreatitis. High TGL can occur due to uncontrolled diabetes, under active thyroid, kidney disease, regular excess intake of calories, being over weight and excess alcohol intake. Regular exercise, caloric restriction, avoiding junk foods and fatty foods and alcohol can help in reducing TGL levels.
