Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was on antibiotics bactrim he now has blotchy red skin not like hives he finished his prescription yesterday the day before he had a fever of a hundred and three is there anything that I should be concerned about other than giving him some Benadryl
Bactrim (Trimethoprim + Sulfamethoxazole) can cause hypersensitivity reactions as described by you in many patients taking it. I would like to know the severity and spread of the red skin and whether it is associated with any other symptoms like itching or bleeding elsewhere. If the there were no accompanying symptoms and spread was also minimal, then giving benadryl might be sufficient. Do remember benadryl causes sleepiness and interferes with concentration. In future consultation with physicians, do inform of this reaction to the prescriber. Hope this helps. Thank you.
