What Causes Horrible Pain On Left-sided Abdomen Below The Rib Cage?

Hello my name is Mary, I have had some horrible pain on my left side right below my ribcage. I thought the pain was on my right too, and went and saw a doctor yesterday and she had me do a CT scan to make sure I was having a pendisitis attack. It came up fine, but pain is getting worse on left side. It still hurts in middle but really bad on left side. Now she wants me to do ultrasound on Friday. Can you please let me know if you think I should, the CT scan just cost me $400 last night.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to gastritis.

For further assessment, you may require upper GI endoscopy, ultrasound or computed tomography abdomen after gastroenterologist consultation.

Till then you can take tablet pantoprazole, syp Mucaine Gel after consultation.

Avoid hot and spicy foods. Take light foods.

Do regular exercise for 30 to 40mins daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
