Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Hot Flashes And Fever Post Placement Of Paragard IUD?
Just got Paragard IUD inserted yesterday morning. Almost passed out after insertion and have had slight cramping/fatigue since. Around 3 pm this afternoon I got chills and a fever. I am now having hot flashes. Is this normal for the first 24-48 hrs? I ve never had kids or any type of std
Mild cramps or spotting is admirable after IUD insertion, but hot flashes with fever and chills are not normally encountered during such procedure. There can be reason of flare up of underlying low grade infection or inflammatory response in relation with foreign body insertion. I would recommend immediately to consult your OBGYN for the same and get further guidelines, though primary relief can be obtained with intake of tablet paracetamol (650 mg) with snacks. Should obtain abstinence from vaginal sex if active at present. And drink plenty of liquids as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
