What Causes Hot Flashes Post Withdrawal From Prempro?

I had the Novasure ablation in 2013- due to extremely heavy periods. I started having hot flashes. I started on Prempro. Ive seen a different OB-GYN who said that Prempro should no longer be needed so I stopped. Then the flashes began again. So I started Prempro again. 2 weeks ago I stopped the Prempro again- worried about cancer but the flashes started again. This time though they are lasting up to 3 MINUTES. Any advice as to what s going on ??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suggested to inform your treating OBGYN before stopping any medication. If needed it can be replaced with some medication that suits you better. Some lifestyle changes can help to reduce flashes, avoid spicy food, caffeine, alcohol, stop smoking, wear cotton clothes. Take well balanced meals with adequate calcium & vitamin D. Avoid stress & exercise regularly. You can take vitamin E, Evion-400 once daily for 15 days to feel better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
