What Causes Hot Sweats After Undergoing Deviated Nasal Septum Surgery?

My husband had uvila, tonsils, and a deviated septum repaired due to hopes of repairing his sleep apnea. Since his surgery 5 days ago, breaks out in sweats and is hot and then shortly he is cold. Is this common after surgery, not to mention he is in extreme pain, which his doctor said was normal?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.

Noted the history about your husband who was operated for sleep apnea with removal of tonsil, uvula and correction of deviated nasal septum 5 days ago and breaks out in sweat, becomes hot and then cold, has severe pain.
Severe pain with cold sweats, hot is indicative of an infection somewhere.
I would advise him the following:
To consult the operating surgeon, get the ENT Endoscopy, tests of blood.
Change over to another antibiotic.
Good anti-inflammatory with painkiller properties.
MRI of the operated area if required.
Surgery has its known complications whoever does it hence the possibility has to be kept in mind and treated accordingly.
Also needed is to get the blood, urine reports.
Second opinion as suggested by your treating Doctors and further management as suggested.
With all these factors there will be god recovery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
