What Causes Impaired Memory After Increasing The Dosage Of Trazodone Tablet?

I m a 85 year old woman who has been taking 50 mg trazodone for about 30 months and recently increased it to 2 pills rather than 1 daily. I m experience memory difficulty and unable to cook without careful studying the cookbook by my doctor without seeing me for two months. What would have caused him to do this? YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The Trazodone is a SSRI ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor ), used as an anti depressant with excellent clinical results.

However, there are ample number of side effects of the drug as

- dizziness

- vertigo

- weakness

- headache

- visual disturbances

- taste changes

- GI discomfort

- others

* As the dose is increased twice than normal, its the reason of impaired memory and difficulty in cooking. It is recommended to return back to previous dose and get well soon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
