What Causes Increased Bilirubin Level While Suffering From Malaria?
Hi Sir My father suffering from malaria before 2 week so he admitted in hospital and then took treatment still fever s thr so we checked bilurubin that level is 11.60 ( before 1 month he checked bilurubin level thats is 0.9) why its suddenly increased?
Jaundice in patients suffering from malaria could be due to the inflammation of the liver parenchyma by the invading parasites. Other causes include increased breakdown of the parasitized red blood cells, coexisting acute viral hepatitis, underlying chronic hepatitis or caused by anti-malarial drug itself. He needs to be carefully monitored by his treating doctor and also to rule out other causes as mentioned above.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
