What Causes Increased Heart And Shallow Breathing?

I have had two episodes in two days where my heart began racing and mr breathing was shallow . I was able to bring it under control by taking deep breaks slowly and relaxing. Both times I was drinking caffeine, yesterday iced tea and this morning coffee.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you should get an EKG to rule out any abnormal heart beat and abnormal heart rhythm. Also chest X-ray and oxygen saturation may be monitored. Chest and cardiac examination by also be needed. If breathing difficulty persists, pulmonary function tests may also be needed. Treatment will be according to the cause however too much caffeine containing beverages may be avoided.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
