What Causes Increased Thirst Along With Frequent Urination And Weight Loss?
My 68 yr old brother in law was c/o increased thirst, increased urination and wt loss. He went to the doctors and had a BS over 400. He is being treated with metformin and another po med. he is c/ o a bad taste in his mouth and lack of appetite. His wife stared him on ensure. I think he has lost about 50lbs.he also c/o back pain . I m not fully convinced that diab. Is his only problem
68 yrs, increased thirst and urination points to diabetes, weight loss can be due to plenty of conditions including a thyroid issue or a chronic infection which diabetes is usually associated with.
Does he have low grade fever lately or since long? How about blood tests for HBsAg and HIV?
Please get a blood workup done asap with complete hemogram, HIV, HBsAg, CRP, KFT, Thyroid profile and look for a chronic infection or hyperthyroidism
a detailed history along with thorough workup will surely help him.
Back pain can be isolated illness due to old age or due to a kidney infection (which KFT and USG Abdomen will point out)
wish him well Thanks
