What Causes Increased Urine Output While On Bactrim For UTI?

I am taking Bactrim for a UTI. I am needing to urinate every 5 minutes. I am so dehydrated. I am tired and weak but not nauseous. I am a 53 year old female. Is the antibiotic causing me to pee this much? I m seriously considering calling my doctor today. This can t be good for my kidneys.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
I can understand your concern for the increased frequency of urination.
The antibiotic Bactrim (Cotrimoxazole) is unlikely to be the reason for your symptoms of frequent urination.
It could be due to either the infection of the urinary bladder or there may also be a possibility of diabetes mellitus.
I would advise you to consult your treating doctor for certain lab tests like fasting blood glucose to rule out diabetes.

Hope this answers your query,.
