What Causes Indentation On The Side Of Rib Cage Along With Back Pain?

Hi Doc I have a very tender indentation on my left side in rib cage. Pain radiates in back of should blade and in front. Had chest X-ray...all is good. I had a bad fall a year ago and broke my left elbow. Could this be related. It is so very tender and flares up and gets worse at times. The indentation is alarming me. Can you help? Ive read about slipped ribs and nerve damage? I have also have a couple of chest exams because sometimes the pain radiates thru the from of my left chest. All checked out good there too.

Hello,

Pain radiating to back of shoulder blade could be due to nerve compression caused by trauma caused to the rib cage. I suggest you to consult your treating doctor for clinical assessment and thus treatment.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
