What Causes Indigestion With History Of Having G-tube Removed?

My daughter is now 26, but when she was born, she was premature. She had a g-tube for about 4 years. The tube was removed and the wound was closed. Now in the last few years, after she eats, she has indigestion and takes Tums. Could this be due to the hole in the stomach many years ago or could it be indigestion? Should she see a gastro doctor? Please adivse.

Hi,

It is possible that your daughter's indigestion could be related to her history of having a G-tube. The G-tube may have caused some damage to the stomach lining and could have resulted in scar tissue formation, which may interfere with normal digestion. However, it is also possible that her indigestion could be caused by other factors such as acid reflux, gastritis, or other gastrointestinal disorders.

It may be helpful for your daughter to see a gastroenterologist for a thorough evaluation. The gastroenterologist can perform tests such as an upper endoscopy or a pH study to identify the underlying cause of her indigestion. Treatment options may include changes in diet, medication, or other interventions depending on the underlying cause of her symptoms.

In addition, it may be helpful for your daughter to keep a food diary to identify any specific foods or drinks that may trigger her symptoms. She can then avoid these triggers as much as possible to help manage her symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
