my 95 y.o. mother had a g-tube placed about a month ago. All was well for a while, but recently, (the past 4 or 5 days) there has been some inflammation and a little more redness around the tube. Then, too, we notice that after about 80 - 110 ml formula delivered by pump at 160 ml/hr., she starts to drool a little, and then starts to twitch., hands mostly, like having little elctrical shocks,.. but also feet, and also we noticed sometimes on her chest/shoulder twitching below the surface of the skin, maybe capillaries/vascular? It has been suggested to us that the drooling may be part of Parkinsonean syndrome, and i can understand that but for the definite connection between feeding via pump and twitching/spams starting. They ten last about an hour and a half, and subside. This was not happening before the site started getting inflamed and red-rimmed. Her doctor has put her on septra to counter this small infection....but the connection between the twitching and feeding has grown more clearly and diminishes her capacity to receive nutrition, thus cancelling out the benefit of outfitting the tube in the first place. Any thoughts? Is there some possibiility that the tube is touching some set of nerve connections? The stomach is somehow not expanding to accomodate volume? or the inifection may be inside as well, and each time the formula is puimped it creates discomfort ? Could it be she needs to evacuate more? Trying to figure out some possibilities ...thank you, k
