What Causes Inflammation And Swelling In The Fingers?

I have 2 fingers that have red areas, flaking skin, some swelling. One area is along the upper joint of the ring finger, right hand and the other is the middle right hand finger but the red area is under the finger nail. Sometimes the ring finger turns purple in the tip of the finger, very stiff and sore.
