What Causes Inflammation Around The Finger Joints?

Greetings! I have to take Allegra D but I have had a reaction when I take Claritin but not sure if it is the regular Claritin or the D. This may be weird but my left thumb at the first joint gets red and enlarged, as well as my lips -- both accompanied by itching. I eventually lose the skin on the thumb and lips; and, my thumb nail eventually gets replaced after a horizontal line appears. Actually, the horizontal lines grows with the thumb nail. I m not sure if it is the regular Claritin or Claritin D. Would you have an idea which one would cause such a reaction?
