What Causes Inflammation In Nasal Passage And Drainage At Back Of Throat?

I am 56 year old female in excellent health. On Saturday, the ball of my nose turned bright red. It has stayed bright red since then-6 days. It has not blistered. It doesn t hurt. It looks awful. The inside of my nasal passage is inflamed. Two weeks ago I was prescribed Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray USP for drainage down the back of my throat. My dr said there was drainage from the back of my throat. I backed off the nasal spray after my nose turned bright red with no effect. Why is my nose bright red-it s not getting worse, but it s not getting better--

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pharyngitis and upper respiratory tract infections should be ruled out. Antibiotics should be started to reduce the congestion in the nasal passages. Steam inhalation and Betadine mouth gargling will reduce any throat pain or difficulty in swallowing. In case of persistent symptoms, nasal endoscopy should be done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
