What Causes Inflammation In The Lungs, Fatigue And Breathlessness?

I have inflammation in my lungs. I spent 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital in July and August. Doctors have not given a name for my problems yet. I have very little stamina, weakness, and shortness of breath. I also have large red spots on my upper and lower eyelids constantly that will go away and return quickly. I am 76 years old, and this is the first illness that I have ever have that I feel could be life threatening. Thank you for your response.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

On the basis of your history, I assume that you have an inflammatory lung disease (ILD).
ILD is a chronic, progressive and inflammatory disease having multiple etiologies or causes.
ILDs cannot be treated completely but they can be controlled or managed.
Treatment and management of ILD will depend on the underlying cause.
Red spots on upper and lower eyelids could be to petechia.
Petechia occur due to low platelets.
I suggest you get a complete blood count done to check the platelet count.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
