What Causes Insomnia After Taking Double Dosage Of Tramadol?

my wife usually takes 10ml of Tramadol at night for pain and to get to sleep. the last two nights she has taken twice the amount and hasn t been able to sleep ALL night long. She is 90 and bed ridden. Could the change in the tramadol cause the restlessness and inability to sleep?

Acute onset sleeplessness and restlessness requires further evaluation for the onset of delirium. Electrolyte imbalances, metabolic derangement, medications, stroke etc can cause such symptoms. Doubling the dose f tramadol can contribute to such symptoms. Reduce the dose back to usual and follow-up with the emergency room to evaluate for other possible causes I mentioned here.
