What Causes Insomnia And Anxiety While On Clonidine HCL?

My daughter was just prescribed Clonidine HCL - we started at .05 and now at .1. She is special needs with microcephly -- she started since Christmas not sleeping and having anxiety. It has calmed her some with sleeping but she still wakes up with anxiety and has it out. She gets anxious about where is my/I want my computer, phone, camera, a person or dance/activity. I have made story boards to help guide her though what to expect. Working with her to breath. I can watch her try to control it/breathe and then it over takes her. Is this medication sufficient for the anxiety also? If not what should I read about/investigate?

Hi,

While on Clonidine HCL, the medication should be taken regularly & at the same time to get the best efficacy. It should not be suddenly stopped if the patient is well, it may be fatal. Stay always in connection with your treating doctor. Missing the doses & taking the medications carelessly may cause insomnia & anxiety.

To help your daughter get rid of insomnia & anxiety, give her the medications as prescribed. Help her have adequate sleep, take her outdoors & let her spend more time there. Do not let her get stressed up, help her with daily exercises. Let her have good time in the sunshine, make healthy life style changes. Eat home made food.
