What Causes Insomnia Despite Taking Ambien?

I have been taking Ambien for about 6 months due to insomnia. My husband is being treated for lung cancer, which I assumed was causing the insomnia. Some nights I take my regular dose of 10 mg and I still can t go to sleep. It s as if it isn t working. Is this a normal reaction?
