Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am taking7 trazodone which was prescribed by my psychiatrist. She prescribed it in order I have a profound sleep with less dream. After 4 weeks that I am taking this medicine, I didn t experience a good sleep. Would you please help me regarding this problem.
Trazodone is primarily a drug approved for depression, by FDA. However, this drug is being prescribed off label by doctors for condition of insomnia. It has many advantages like it is effective in low doses for insomnia and also it is not addictive in nature. However, the dose for inducing sleep may be different in each patient. Your effective dose may be a bit more than prescribed by your doctor. Also, some times the doctor may have to add some other drug with trazodone for the treatment of insomnia. However, in these cases, it is always advised to consult your doctor about this and treatment done accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
