What Causes Insomnia While On Loratadine?

I have been taking Loritadine (Claritin) for a number of years, and have trouble sleeping. I currently take 1/2 tablet about 5 mg daily in the morning. The Loritadine I take is a generic sold by Dollar General, and is sold as non drousy. Can I get the original Claritin which makes some people drousy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Loratadine is called a non-drowsy antihistamine; however, it can still cause drowsiness. The difference is of strength.

The full strength Loratidine may cause drowsiness while the 5 mg Loratidine is non-drowsy. So in your case, you will have to switch again to the full strength Loratidine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
