What Causes Intense And Stabbing Left Sided Back Pain?
I have a severe stabbing pain in my back on the left side about midway up. it comes on suddenly and will last for hours. heat and ice do not help. immobilization makes the pain worse. This has been occurring over the last week. Any idea what this could be ?

Is there any history of trauma? any difficulty in breathing?
It appear most likely to be a muscular pain . You may need to see your physician so that you can be properly assessed. There is need to get your CHEST XRAY and ECG.
