What Causes Intense Back Pain Despite Taking Medication?
Hello I am suffering from intense back pain. When I say intense I mean I can t do anything. It starts in my lower back and goes down my left leg mainly but rarely my right as well. Also from my mid back to between my shoulder blades then into both arms. The pain in my arms is sometimes worse that when I have broken bones. Also I will have waves of goosebumps that radiate from my spine throughout my upper body. I have been to a nuerosugoen and he said to me there was nothing to be done surgically thank god. But he sent me to a pain clinic and they told me that they were skeptical to help me be he told them he saw no reason for any pain at all. Even though my ct scan revealed four compression fractures and four herniated disc. I am at a point where the pain clinic is treating me as an adict and will not help me. I do have a n appointment for a second opinion at duke neurology at duke university. I can say the only thing that has helped has been drugs like hydrocodone. I have been taking gabapenton for five weeks with no help. Lucenta helped but made me very intoxicated and nauseous. I can not function like that. Do you have any advise for me?? I am very desperate for a perminant solution that does not require drugs. Thanks Bobby

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
In my view you should start doing yogic therapy from an expert. Do the exercises taught with full relaxation of the muscles involved. Continue with pain medicines you are taking along with calcium, vitamin D, C, B12, high protein and low caloric diet (if over weight). Reduce pain medicines gradually as there is relief. It may take months for relief. Patience is needed. Be in touch with your doctor periodically.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
