What Causes Intense Burning Sensation On The Right Buttocks Post Spinal Surgery?

I just had spinal surgery to remove a rod and screws from right side of L5-S1 that was inserted for stabilization of replacement of L5 with cadaver bone and cage on 8/24/2016. I am having intense burning and hot sensations from right buttock around to outer thigh. Weakness in walking. Leg has gone numb and gave out from under me 4-5 times now. Hurts. Then gets itchy. Sensitive to touch. I see my surgeon to remove staples on Tuesday. Is something going on where I need urgent care or the ER? I am sorry to bother you...I just lost disability...appealing it due to one dr not sending in correct information. Temporary loss of insurance until it goes through to be put on my husbands. As of now...I cannot afford $15. I am sorry for wasting your time. YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to neuropathic causes like peripheral neuropathy or sciatica. As first line management, you can take drugs like gabapentin for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
