What Causes Intense Gum Pain After Removal Of Wisdom Tooth?

My triplet daughters had their wisdom teeth out 28. One all 4, the other 2 had their top 2 out. They are still in a lot of pain. I spoke with the doctor about this on Dec 31 and he said this was the normal at that time due to the bell curve. However, the pain is so great that they still need pain medication. I am no sure if I should call the doctor today to bring them in to be seen at his office on a Sunday to check for dry socket or try and wait until Monday. Thoughts?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if your daughters have got the wisdom teeth removed on 28th, it is now almost twenty days and pain even after twenty days is not a normal finding and as pain is severe there is a possibility that they have developed dry socket..
Other cause can be that the tooth is not completely removed and there are remnants of root pieces in the tooth sockets and there an be flaring of infection and pain.
You should take them to the treating dentist and get evaluated and an x ray can help in further confirmation of cause and treatment can be done..
You should not delay as this is not a normal course of pain as the pain most probably subsides in eight to ten days even after surgical removal of wisdom teeth..
As of now you can give them painkillers but referring your dentist is a must that too soon..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
