Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Intense Headache After Vomiting Long After Draining A Cyst From Cortex?
My question is quite similar to the posting from Dec. 23 2012: headache after vomiting. My 13 yr-old son vomited an hr ago and began yelling with headache pain that came on suddenly/immediately after vomiting. He had no headache prior to vomiting. In 2010 he had surgery to drain an arachnoid cyst that filled about 2/3 of his left frontal cortex. He has had chronic headaches before and after his surgery, always focussed right above his nose. He said this headache pain was the worst ever and covered his entire forehead. He has no other symptoms and headache pain subsided for 45 minutes, down to a 4 (1-10). Then he fell asleep, is sleeping now. What would you recommend we do? Thank you! I ve never seen this website before. Mike
I'm here to answer your question and help you with the concern
Forcible vomiting can cause pressure to increase in the head/brain/blood vessels, and this can shoot up the blood pressure and thus causing diffuse headache.
As it has subcided now and as he is sleeping, wait until he gets up. If the headache has subcided completely, you can relax, or if it recurs or persists for more than a day, I suggest to get a MRI scan done and get checked once.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards Dr Chaithanya
