Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 88 yr old Mom experienced itching during the night and scratched herself until she began to bleed. The next day she began to have weeping legs as she advises she was not taking her water pill- she can walk but not long distances as she gets short of breath. Shall I force her to go to the hospital — which will not be an easy task?
these symptoms of itching your old mom has refer to
i feel your worry about this itching your old mom has but i would like to tell you we have two possibilities of that
first if it is irregular patches or circular patches with itching it will be allergic reaction...
this allergic reaction occur due to contact with allergen substance to the body that enhance histamine release and causes these symptoms of red patches with iching and in this case your mom needs to take antihistaminic drugs that will improve it and try to know what substance that cause this and subside that again
some times bacterial infection or fungal infection may be the cause so i prefer you see the dermatologist for examination of your old mom.... if these lesions appear vesicular and pappular and filled with fluid this indicate reactivation of varicella zoster virus causing shingles and this case is common happening with no danger of that....
wish your mom healthy life
