What Causes Intense Pain And Redness On The Ankle Caused Due To A Laceration?
My mother was using a string trimmer two weeks ago and recieved a large laceration on her ankle from the string trimmer. The laceration didn t bleed much at all, and she did clean the wound out soon after it happened but she is suffering from a lot of pain now in her ankle, her ankle is noticeably swollen red and tender to the touch. The laceration itself isn t very red but on the outside of the laceration and underneath it her ankle looks very red. She says the laceration burns, and feels very tight. We are trying to determine if the laceration feels the way it does and looks the way it does due to the normal healing process or if she should be checked to see if it is infected?
Very likely the laceration got infected and she will need antibiotics to have it under control. There are several antibiotics that can be used, depending also on her allergies. She will need to see a doctor to have the prescription and start the antibiotics as soon as possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
