Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dr. I have intense pain down my left leg due to sciatica. According to my Dr. it s not Sciatica proper but these symptoms are acting like Sciatica. It s in my left hip & bypasses my buttocks completely. But the most shocking that I have ever seen was my skin fluttering. I can feel it & see it moving. What is that all about? It has happened several times in the last few days. I was wearing shorts yesterday & the skin around my knee moving. A few days ago it was on my upper thigh on the left side squeezing & moving. Have you ever heard of this?
It sounds like you might be having muscle spasms. This could cause intense pain and make the skin seem to flutter or move. I am not sure what you mean by it not being "sciatica proper" but I would not rule out the possibility of sciatica or at least something abnormal occurring in the nerve. There are also localized movements of muscle twitching (fibrillations) that could cause this; they could be due to some abnormality or condition developing either in the muscle fibers or nerve endings going into the muscles. If you are having other problems like weakness or numbness in that leg, that would also suggest a problem with the nerves and/or muscle. If this is getting worse, you might want to see a neurologist. Hope this helps.
