What Causes Intense Pain In Lower Back And Buttocks Along With Depression?

I have asked this question once before, but think I did something wrong, I ve already paid and would really like an answer! I am 63 and have had back problems for 25 years. L4/5 discs ruptured and had to be operated on, I felt great until knocked by a pedestrian on a street, back I go for L4/5 discectomy, feeling much better. Nobody told me that I was born with scoliosis, I don t believe my parents knew, then I went through the dreadfull polio epidemic in Great Britain, I came down with the symptoms, but was kept at home, I don t know why, I couldn t stand and yet before the feaver I could! Mum never told me how long it took for me to get over that. Since my last discectomy I have had 4 more. The last one I was told no more surgery by Dr Miller at VGH. Too much scar tissue from Dr Gittens surgeries, and possible large problems. A pain block was recommended BUT I have to wait a year to get one, can t afford to go private, I m disabled retired and broke! Lol! I also have Fibromyalgia and depression. These last discs that are causing intense pain in my lower back, my bum and my sciatic nerve are new ones to go L2/3 but too close to the scar tissue for surgery, my GP had me on 30 mg extended release in a.m and pm. With prn of 5mg 4 x a day for breakout pain. My personal maximum on morphine in 10mg otherwise it does strange things to me, in this case I was in more & more pain with my leg & with each additional mg it just kept getting worse, I kept falling on my hips, hitting my head, falling off the toilet etc; I have told him no more morphine & I m slowly detoxing.... It s hard.... But I m winning, the pain is coming back though and I have heard of some results with an injection given to yourself inn the belly? I believe it s meant for arthritis but as I have that anyway, I was wondering about it. I have pretty much all the autoimmune problems, right down to Vitilgo and lychen sclerosis I also have collegeus colitis. And tried a lot of different meds. I take pregablin & T3s Prystic. I m a mess! But the big thing is the pain I need some informed suggestions, to keep it under control... Please & thank you. Lynda

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The long narration with different symptomatic presentation and at present concern of lower back with buttock pain indicates stress related non specific muscle cramps and ache rather than any grave pathology or big issue. Alteration in drug regimen to control excess thoughts, addition of muscle relaxant as chlordiazepoxide assisted physiotherapy meditations and YOGA, regular aerobics, control of body weight are best measures to follow for best results.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
