What Causes Intense Pain In The Center Of The Upper Abdominal Area And Vomiting?

I had an incident where I had sever pain in the center of my upper abdomine, almost like a severe squeezing sensation. Very painful just between the breats at the bottom of the breat bone. My heart rate increased, I became very hot and flushed. I have not history of a heart condition or other known illnesses. I took tums and within 2 minutes I vomited. The vomit did not feel like it came from my lower stomach as normally, but from the area of the pain. It was yellow and very bitter. After vomitting I felt immediate relief and within 10 minutes I felt completly better

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the intense pain in center of upper abdomen with bitter vomiting and immediate relief by vomiting indicates acute gastritis (usually in relation with food induced episode). If it is on recurrent basis, one has to be evaluated for acute on chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer or other clinical conditions.

My guidelines at present:
- Avoid all spices, non veg, junk items, dairy fat
- Avoid stress, anxiety which exacerate the symptoms
- PPI as omeprazole for a period of 7-10 days
- Avoidance of smoking if consuming
- Meditations and YOGA
- Regular aerobics
- Control of body weight, cholesterol levels

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
