What Causes Intense Pain In The Upper Abdomen And Back?

My wife is having intense pain in her upper abdomen and going into her back. We took her to the ER a week ago and the EKG and blood tests came up normal. They gave her some morphine and after awhile the pain subsided. However, today the pain has returned, but not sure what can be done if we took her back in, besides pain meds

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
if this is my case i would 1st rule out myocardial infarction( heart attack) by doing ekg. as you mentioned it is normal we further invistigate for cause.
so for time being we relive pain by giving morphine and pantaprozole and as soon as it reived.
we take him for 1)ultrasonography
2)errect xray abdomen
for this case it might be gastritis ,peptic ulcer ,intestinal obstuction, intestinal perforation.
all these condition are easily treatable .
no need to worry.
all the best for speed recovery
thank u
