What Causes Intense Pain Under Ribs On Left Side?

I have a continued pain in my upper left side/under rib area but not exactly in abdomen. Been a few days now sometimes intense. I thought it was a muscle pull or something but didn t really do anything to cause it. Could it be associated with pancreas? I am diabetic (controlled) and I do not have gallbladder. Have had some gas lately

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear thanks for the question.

Yes it can be due to problems in pancreas. However I treat my patients first with antacids as acidity (gas in stomach) is most common reason for pain in this area. And history of gas in your case also confirms that.

You take antacids (omeperazole 20mg ) for 2-3 days, if no relief visit a doctor for ultrasound abdomen and enzymes study to look for Pancreas problems. There is little chance of spleen disease also. But ultrasound will help in that.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Do write for follow up queries. I wish you good health. Please provide feedback. Thank you
