What Causes Inter Menstrual Bleeding And Abdominal Pain?
Hi, I took an ipill after 30 hours of unprotected sex. I took a pill on 5th and i ve had vaginal bleeding for three days, starting from 15-17. I also had white vaginal discharge with severe abdominal pain. The pain stopped for two days and recurred again, along with minimal discharge. What does this mean? Am I pregnant? Or did the contraceptive work? Do I need to get a pregnancy test done?
I-pill is a post coital emergency contraceptive pill which arrests the egg release (ovulation) after its consumption. The ovulation may get delayed for few days and hence any intercourse after I-pill is not considered to give protection from the pregnancy.
The delayed ovulation may cause some pain with increased discharge, sometimes even some bleeding in abdomen which is called as Mittelschmerz. You had this pain. Since now the pain has stopped, you need not worry about it.
I-pill is known to cause some bleeding few days after its consumption. It lasts for few days and stops subsequently within few days; this you have experienced. Again, no issue of concern.
None of these symptom are suggestive of pregnancy. The first cardinal symptom of pregnancy is missing a period, which you have not.
And finally, I would like to inform you that the period following consumption of I-pill may get delayed by few days to a week or so. Therefore, please do not get panicky if your periods are delayed. Wait patiently for the menses to appear. If your menses are delayed for more than a week you may get your pregnancy test done on overnight morning first urine sample; earlier the test may report false negative reports.
I hope I have clarified your doubts.
