Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Intermittent RUQ Pain, Despite Normal Colonoscopy And Endoscopy Results?
Hi. I have had intermittent URQ pain (2 on scale 1-10) for two years. Had colonoscopy and endoscopy with no findings ... other than H-Pylori ... so am now just finishing 2 week antibiotic treatment for that. Doc suggests its muscular! I think not! Dull pain quite predictable about 2 hours after dinner and lasting say 1-2 hours. I can certainly live with it, but in my mind, its still an undiagnosed pain. Thoughts on other causes or diagnostics ?
Pain in right upper quadrant of abdomen 2 hours after dinner and lasting for 1 to 2 hours, normal Upper GI Endoscopy and colonoscopy, H pylori treated well. The commonest cause I can think about is related to a stone in the common bile duct or pancreas. This can be diagnosed by Contrast enhanced CT scan or MRCP, ERCP. Consult a Gastroenterologist for these investigations and get treated as per the cause found. Also needed is the tests of blood, urine and stool. Liver function tests along with GGT and Alkaline Phosphatase helps for obstructive cause. This is so as you are developing pain 2 hours after food indicating the food reaching the duodenum is causing all the symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
