Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 14 year old son has been running a fever off and on for about a week. Highest reed has been 103. He has seen three different doctors that say there is nothing they can do for him. He has a slight cough and is not coughing anything up. He is breathing normal with no other symptoms. Normally when I give him tylenol the fever breaks and he is fine. This past time it did not break it. Do I take him back to see a doctor?
If he is active and feels well other then the cough and fever, you may just give him fluids and paracetamol and also rest for 2-3 days. If he is not better in 2-3 days or you notice any worsening he will need to see a doctor and walking pneumonia can be considered.
This is pneumonia (lung infection) from some atypical bacteria (not the typical ones that cause pneumonia) and may cause very vague symptoms which last.
In this case a chest xray and blood test like CBC, ERS and CRP might be helpful to add to the diagnosis.
Treatment for it is with azithromycine for 5 days, oral fluids and rest.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
