What Causes Intermittent Fever And Dry Mouth In An Elderly Person?

Yes please, I live with my eighty year old mother and the last two days she has had a fever off and on where she gets the sweats and complains she is hot. Then maybe an hour later she is really cold i mean cold where she is shivering. Are these symptoms some type of flu she also is complaining of an upset stomach and dry mouth she says she is really thirsty?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain the symptoms of having fever on and off along with dry mouth and upset stomach seems to be most probably due to viral infection leading to fever and dehydration. I would suggest that she should consult a General Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

You can be advised to take Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen combination for reducing fever. She can take plenty of water and also chew sugar free chewing gums for relieving dry mouth and reducing dehydration. Take more of yogurt in diet. Take appropriate rest.
