What Causes Intermittent Fever When Diagnosed With Pneumonia?

Hello, my husband has had fever off and on for 4 days now, i took him to Urgent care, they did X-Rays and said he has pneumonia. His primary recieved report this morning and said his Lungs are clear. He is on AntiBiotic and Tamiflu but his fever keeps coming back at approx. 101.4 or 99.00 and then 98.7 all day for 2 days. Friday night it started with a fever of 102 and then 103. I am taking him to Cardiologist tomorrow because he is having leg stiffness and back pain. Could this be the sign of a blood clot?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Lung blood clots (lung thromboembolism) may cause fever and are sometimes not well differentiated on a chest x-ray. It is a good idea to have his legs checked with Doppler ultrasound for thrombosis if he has risk factors for this. There is also a blood test D-Dimer that can be used and a lung CT scan to make sure if there is any risk for thrombosis.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
