What Causes Intermittent Inflammation Of Skin On The Neck?

I have a burning sensation on the right side of my neck. It will bother me for several days and then go away. It is intermittent. I have asked my doctor about it and she said it may just be arthritis. My understanding of arthritis is that it is more of an ache and stiffness. I m just wondering if it could be caused by something else.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it may be due to neuropathy.

This refers to abnormal function of the nerves. There are different possible causes such as: (a) vitamin b12 and folate deficiency
(b)diabetes
(c)trauma
(d)exposure to toxins
(e)liver or kidney disease
(f)side effect of medication
(g)infection such as shingles

Examination would be needed
Blood tests to screen for diabetes, check for liver or kidney disease, vitamin b12 or folate levels.

I hope this helps
