What Causes Intermittent Lower Back Pain?

I have lower back pain that only seems to get worse when I lay down. It started about 6 months ago. It comes and goes. Advil does help a lot. It moves around to different areas of my lower back and upper hips. Could this be due to a poor quality mattress?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your diagnosis of lumbago lower back pain condition:

- You have taken anvil ibuprofen which can be used to relieve pain and inflammation

- Rest is needed

- Muscle relaxant if needed can be prescribed

- Hot pack application beneficial

- Try to avoid heavy weight lifting and prolonged standing

- Physiotherapy beneficial

- Check your calcium level

- Reduce weight if obese and if no improvement

I would like to advise you to do MRI scan. Consult orthopedic surgeon for examination with keeping all this in mind.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
