What Causes Intermittent Pain And Discomfort In Belly Button?

My husband, 85 has intermittent low pain/discomfort to the left of his belly button, and burping, No nausea, no constipation or diahria, no fever, energy OK. He is doing a liquid diet since yesterday. Discomfort comes and goes but is not acute. He does react to most acid foods. Ha had a cat scan in November that ruled out diverticulitis. This began 2 months ago. It eased but got a little worse in the last 2 weeks reacting to humus, liver etc.
