Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Intermittent Pain Below Left Armpit And Ribs?
I am a male 51 year old, Asian, 5 6 , 165lbs. with fair diet and health. I am having localized pinching pain on my left side of the rib cage. It located approximately 4 to 5 ribs counting from the bottom up. Mainly in the area below the left armpit at the left breast nipple height. The pain come and go on it own. Minor tinkling pain can be felt when moderate pressure was applied directly with right hand finger tips. Pain also occurred when moving the left arm around in a circular motion. The pain appeared to come from below the surface. In the past, it went away with out any treatment. I am not experiencing any pain on my left ar.
Is there any swelling that you can feel there? Is the pain increased or affected by breathing?
From given details, I am not able to comment on exact cause without examining you. Anyhow, if pain is not severe, not interfering with daily deeds or breathing and no swelling felt there, try taking paracetamol tablets 3 times a day for 3 days. If pain persists or recurs, kindly get it examined by your doctor to see what is going on. In that case, you may be asked for an X-ray.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
